EDD PFL Payment Delayed: What to Check Before Calling

Review official EDD processing guidance, required documents, claim status, and payment history when a Paid Family Leave payment seems delayed.

First, identify where the payment is delayed

EDD says it takes about two weeks to process a new PFL application and issue payment to an eligible worker. The claim-process page also says an eligibility determination can take up to 14 days after EDD receives a completed application.

Those are processing guidelines, not a guarantee for every claim. A claim is complete only when the application is filled out and the required signed documents have been provided.

Use the status to choose your next step

  1. 1. No payment has been issued and the claim is still pending

Review your PFL claim status and payment history in SDI Online. Check EDD notices and confirm every required document for your claim type was submitted and signed. EDD states that an incomplete application or missing documents will not be processed.

  2. 2. EDD requested information or documents

Follow the instructions and deadline in the EDD notice. Required documents differ for bonding, care, and military-assist claims; use the submission method EDD provides for that document.

  3. 3. The payment history says a payment was issued

Review the payment method you selected and EDD’s payment notice. EDD directs debit-card questions to Money Network; a direct-deposit or mailed-check issue may require a different next step.

  4. 4. The official record does not explain the delay

Send a secure written question using Ask EDD, or call PFL if you need a live conversation.

If you decide to call PFL

Use the current number and language options in our California PFL phone-number guide. Before calling, note what SDI Online shows, when the completed application and documents were submitted, which payment or benefit period you mean, and what the latest EDD notice says.

Our PFL call-preparation checklist can help you organize the identifiers EDD recommends having ready. ConnectEDD cannot inspect the claim, identify the reason for a delay, release a payment, or influence EDD’s decision.

Help with repeated calling

Want ConnectEDD to handle the redialing?

ConnectEDD handles repeated calling and requests a California PFL callback to your authorized phone number when the option is available. Callback availability and timing can vary.

You may call EDD yourself for free. ConnectEDD is a paid convenience for the repeated-calling portion and does not represent you or access your claim.
