Contact EDD when the answer affects the claim

Contact EDD when you need an official answer about filing, a claim decision, missing information, payment, or a change you are required to report. Use SDI Online first for information it already provides, Ask EDD for a secure written question, and the PFL phone line when you need a live conversation.

ConnectEDD cannot answer claim-specific questions or tell you what EDD will decide.

Before filing a PFL claim

EDD specifically says to call 1-877-238-4373 before filing if you have questions about the claim start date. EDD explains that the start date determines the base period and benefit rate and cannot be changed after a valid claim is established.

Gather your leave dates, work and wage information, and claim-type documents before contacting EDD so the question is specific.

After filing

  • The claim status or an EDD notice asks for information you do not understand.
  • Required documents were submitted but the official record still shows an unresolved issue.
  • The payment history does not match the payment or period you are asking about.
  • EDD contacts you because it cannot determine eligibility without more information.
  • You receive a decision and need official information about the next available step.

Start by checking the PFL claim status in SDI Online.

While receiving benefits

EDD says PFL claimants must report returning to part-time or full-time work, receiving wages, or certain changes involving the care or bonding recipient. The Manage Benefits page explains the applicable forms and upload steps.

If you need to stop automatic payments because you returned to work or another listed event occurred, use EDD’s official instructions promptly. Ask EDD, mail, and the PFL phone line are among the contact options EDD identifies for ending benefits.

Choose the contact method that fits

  • SDI Online: status, payment history, and supported document uploads.
  • Ask EDD: a secure written PFL question.
  • PFL phone line: automated information, online help, or a live representative when available.

None of these channels guarantees a particular eligibility decision or payment date. EDD remains the only source of an official claim determination.
