EDD PFL “Maximum Number of Callers Reached”: What to Do

The call did not reach a PFL representative

If the EDD phone system says the maximum number of callers has been reached and ends the call, you have not reached an agent. Decide whether you need a live conversation before calling again: EDD offers online self-service for some status, payment-history, document, and written-question needs.

EDD does not publish a guaranteed time when a place will open or promise that a later attempt will connect. Be cautious with websites that present an exact “best time” as a certainty.

Choose the next step that matches what you need

You need claim status or payment history

Check SDI Online first. Follow the steps in our PFL claim-status guide.

You have a written question

Use EDD’s secure online question path when it fits the issue. See how to use Ask EDD for PFL.

You need to speak with an agent

Call the official PFL line again, listen to the current options, and review EDD’s instructions for requesting a representative.

You may have called the wrong department

Confirm the current PFL number and language options in the California PFL phone-number guide.

If you call again

EDD lists PFL agents as available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., except holidays. The official instructions say to listen carefully because the options depend on your first choices; after selecting those options and hearing the recordings, you can say “agent” or press 0.

Have your Claim ID and SSN or EDD Client Number ready for faster service. EDD says providing that information is optional and you can still choose to speak with an agent without providing it.

Help with repeated calling

Want ConnectEDD to handle the redialing?

ConnectEDD handles repeated calling and requests a California PFL callback to your authorized phone number when the option is available. Callback availability and timing can vary.

You may call EDD yourself for free. ConnectEDD is a paid convenience for the repeated-calling portion and does not represent you or access your claim.
