California PFL callback process

How the EDD Paid Family Leave Callback Option Works

See what happens when a California PFL callback option is available, what number EDD displays, and what remains your responsibility.

A callback request returns the conversation to you

When the PFL phone system offers a callback option, the authorized phone number is submitted so EDD can call that person back. The claimant still answers the return call and speaks directly with EDD about the claim.

The option may not be available on every attempt. A submitted request does not guarantee exactly when EDD will call or what EDD will decide about a claim.

The ConnectEDD callback-request journey

  1. You provide the phone number where California PFL should reach you.
  2. ConnectEDD handles the repeated calling.
  3. When the callback choice is available, ConnectEDD requests the callback to your authorized number.
  4. You receive confirmation that the callback request was submitted.
  5. You answer PFL’s return call and discuss your claim directly with EDD.

ConnectEDD does not access a claim, answer identity questions, or speak with the representative for you.

How EDD says the call should appear

EDD’s current PFL automated-phone instructions say its return call will display “Public Service PFL Office 1-877-238-4373” on caller ID. Your carrier or device may format the label differently.

Read our EDD PFL caller-ID guide for preparation and security reminders.

A callback service is not claim representation

EDD alone determines eligibility, benefit amount, payment timing, and any action required on a claim. ConnectEDD cannot file documents, change claim information, appeal a decision, or guarantee that EDD will resolve an issue.

You do not need a private service to contact EDD. The official phone line, SDI Online, and Ask EDD remain available directly from EDD.
