PFL and DI have different phone lines

Call Paid Family Leave at 1-877-238-4373 for a PFL claim. Call Disability Insurance at 1-800-480-3287 for a DI claim. Starting with the correct department helps you reach the automated information and representatives assigned to that program.

Both programs are part of State Disability Insurance, but they are not the same benefit and do not share the same claimant phone number.

When your question belongs with Paid Family Leave

PFL generally covers family-leave claims for bonding with a new child, caring for a seriously ill family member, or supporting a family member’s qualifying military deployment. Use the PFL line for questions about an existing PFL claim, PFL payment information, or PFL online access.

For current language and accessibility options, see the official California PFL phone numbers.

When your question belongs with Disability Insurance

Use the DI line for a Disability Insurance claim, including a pregnancy-related DI claim. If a birth mother is transitioning from a pregnancy-related DI claim to PFL bonding, review the notices and claim type shown in SDI Online before choosing the line.

If the question is about a specific PFL claim created after the DI period, start with PFL. If it concerns the DI claim or DI payment period, start with DI.

Numbers that are not for personal claimant questions

EDD publishes a separate employer and licensed-health-professional number. EDD says staff on that line cannot access personal claim information to answer claimant questions.

California state government employees also have separate program numbers. Check the official Contact State Disability Insurance page if either situation applies to you.
